Wings make most of chances, pluck Penguins 4-0

I’m sure I’m not the only person trying to figure out how Holmstrom could be called for another phantom goaltender interference call. From the replays, it’s pretty clear that Homer is NOT in the crease, and debatable whether he was interfering with Fleury. The Wings did the only thing they could at that point, they said “Thank you for the feedback” and went on to continue to pick apart the Penguins.

This is going to be a series of inches; the first period (compared to the lopsided play in the second and third) is a much more likely example of what we’re going to see between these teams. Babcock’s line matchups were brilliant. Malkin looked especially confused, as if he didn’t know what to expect shift to shift.

For you Wings fans out there, the best storyline of the game has got to be the fact that our secondary scorers were the best offensive players of the game. Samuelsson’s first goal was a classic example of taking advantage of a tired line; if Pittsburgh has fresh legs, there is no way that play happens. Flipulla and Hudler were possibly our best forwards — making chances, creating distractions in front of the net, and drawing attention away from Hank and Pavel. They just need to make more of the chances they have. When they do, watch out. Oh, and old-grind-liner Kris Draper went post-to-post. These guys are finally waking up, and if they can continue doing what they did last night, the Pens state of confusion will likely continue.
