If you take the 2002 cup run and last year's trip to the conference finals out of the mix, since 1999 the Wings have been a competent, but middle-of-the-road playoff team. Sure, they caught some bad breaks in 03 and 04, but this year feels as if we're on the verge of something special, something we haven't seen in a few years, a team with a real hunger and a real shot at the cup.
