Pistons beating Red Wings in TV ratings

The Detroit News has an interesting article about how the Pistons, in head-to-head competition with the Red Wings, are winning the battle for TV ratings. On Monday, the News says: “the Pistons Game 4 had a 15.1 rating, while Game 2 of the Stanley Cup drew an 11.5 rating.”

Interesting, but hardly statistically relevant. The first two games of the Stanley Cup final have been on Versus, which has much less penetration locally than ABC (Channel 7) and ESPN, which broadcast games three and four of the Pistons series.

Wednesday night’s games should provide us with a better measure of which team is more popular. My guess is that it will be very close, with a slight edge to the Pistons.
