Mikael Samuelsson, assisted by Valtteri Filppula and Jiri Hudler, scored his fifth goal of the playoffs to send the Red Wings to a 3-2 win in Game 2 of the 2009 Western Conference Finals.
The Red Wings now hold a 2-0 series lead as both teams prepare for Friday night’s Game 3 at the United Center in Chicago.
This was a solid up and down game where the Blackhawks came out of the gate hoping to make a statement. And they did, with youthful captain Jonathan Toews scoring a power play goal at 12:49 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Brian Rafalski and Dan Cleary scored for the Wings, who held on to a 2-1 lead until 12:20 of the third period, when the upstart Toews scored his second goal of the night and sixth of the postseason.
