Franzen nets winner, Ozzie shines in 2-1 OT win; Babcock says: “Plan B Works”

We’d all thought we’d read this script before.

During the second period, I had a flashback to the 1997 series against St. Louis where Yzerman kept shooting into Grant Fuhr’s chest, hoping for a different result after doing the same futile thing over and over again.

I think today’s game was great, the Wings swarmed the net, the transition passing was crisp and the defense was steady. But we’re not going to win anything by continuing to make goalies like Dan Ellis look good unless we can get them going side to side. Shooting into someone’s jersey is not going to win anything. Even against the lowly Predators.

Babcock looks good right now. Ozzie played well and his “Plan B” is paying off. I think the team played better in front of Ozzie and it also seemed that Ozzie was more engaged in the game than we’d seen of Dom in the other games in this series.

And as far as Franzen goes, is there anyone this side of Toledo that isn’t online shopping for a No. 93 jersey right now. This guy has a chance to be the next Holmstrom. He’s strong, he’s got great hands and he might have eyes in the back of his head. Hats off to him for the game winner. Let’s hope he’s got a few more in him this year!
