Last night’s Pistons fiasco was an appropriate, if disappointing, way to turn out the lights on this era of Detroit Pistons history. I went into the game thinking we’d pull it out, go to Boston and win Game 7, then lost to the Lakers in six. But I never expected such a mental breakdown, so quickly after the 10-point lead, on the heels of last year’s flame out in Cleveland. And I never would have expected Rasheed to not show up for the game, but knowing Rasheeed, why shouldn’t I have expected him to be a no show.
The Pistons can now get back to the business of being a hungry basketball team, instead of acting like the displaced champions that they’ve been since losing to the Spurs in 2004.
What’s next? Flip Saunders is (and should be) gone. Rumors are suggesting that Rasheed and/or Rip could be on the trade market. Rodney Stuckey is going to be a stud and could probably earn a lot more minutes next year.
