Wings on the verge; Holmstrom to play in Game 5

Saturday night’s win over the Penguins has put the Wings on the verge of their eleventh Stanley Cup. The players, coaches, team officials and media have all gotten wrapped up in the usual cliches about the “fourth game is the hardest” and “we haven’t won anything yet.”

There has been some speculation about the Conn Smythe winner. My frontrunners are Osgood, Zetterberg and Lidstrom. I think in most years, and on most other teams, a goalie with Ozzie’s stats would be a shoe-in. However, the strength of our defensive corps is keeping him from getting the credit he deserves. A more likely winner is Zetterberg, whose play at both ends of the ice has been nothing short of amazing.

It’s good news that Homer will be playing tonight. As much as I love to see McCarty barking at the rest of the team on the bench, having Homer gives us two great options in front of the net on the power play.
